'Til the rain

Clouds of dust encircled me on the north forty plain,
‘til the rain
and that was the day that the bumble bee caused me a lot of pain
I was roundin’ the cattle ~ was ‘bout noon, I think
The day was as still as the midnight moon, the sky a blistery pink,
The fire started at Pecos Place,
the Sheriff was combin’ the town,
when in walked old Charlie from Memphis,
that’s when the shootin' went down
The Sheriff ~ he shot old Charlie,
but Charlie ~ he shot him too
before he went down he pulled out a stick that he had shoved down in his shoe
It went off with a blast
Pecos Place saw its last,
then windstorms from south ~ ~ ~ up dey blew
Clouds of dust encircled me on the north forty plain,
‘til the rain
and that was the day that the bumble bee caused me a lot of pain.
