I changed My Mind

I Changed My Mind

Last time I wrote, I said,
This my last poem
I’m going home,
on a sabbatical
Then,
Oh, radical me!
I lied, didn’t keep my word
You heard?
Inconsistent, but persistent me
Resistant actually to conformity I'll forever and always be
Split me up in a million pieces and I’ll still be center stage
You’ll never change the me in I,
or the heart of the Atom’s nuclei,
no matter how had you try
slice it,
chop it
crop it,
drop it,
or dice it,
I won’t be the same as before
Pin me down,
I’ll spin you around,
open / then close the door,
mess up the sand on your shore, with a wave
because I will always change
You heard?
I lied,
went back on my word
Inconsistent, but persistent me
Resistant actually to conformity I'll forever and always be

The Thinning Veil

The Thinning Veil

The veil gets thinner further up I go
on the hem of God hangin’ below
It’s somethin’ that I learned long ago
the veil gets thinner further up I go
I wore it thin
and I  wore it wide,
takin’ life in too big a strides,
now I walk it narrow, and take it slow
'cause the veil gets thinner further up I go
on the hem of God hangin’ below

For all Baby Girls (all over the world)

For all Baby Girls (all over the world)

You can judge a man by what he will risk,
for the love of his woman and their little kids
Some work hard, some play soft
“Men” stand firm whatever the cost
Do you have a man who walks by your side
or when the going gets tough does he run and hide?
It’s a question you should ask,
before you take on the task,
before you become his bride,
before you say, I do
Baby, I’m telling you -
Don’t go settling for living together
Commit to marriage for worse or for better
The tide will change and the wind will blow
So Baby Girl, you need to know
a man won’t leave when the going gets tough,
or make his priority “other stuff”
You will always be his bride,
he will admire you for your inside
A man won’t fold before the end of the game,
count his chips then run away
He’ll play it out 'til the end,
and if this is the kind of man you choose,
Baby, you’ll do the same
Settle for nothing less,
than this,
for your husband,
your Lover
Now be on your way. . .
I love you,
your Grandmother

What if ?

What if ?

What if it turns out that “I” am the poem
and I’m not really here at home
It scares me a little ~ well a lot
that “I” am not who I thought
You are what you think, said Christ,
and He was absolutely right
So I wait in the darkness at home
alone,
after I’ve turned out the light,
at night,
and think
about what it means
to be at home
in a link of my own,
as ink in a poem,
It scares me a little ~ well a lot
that “I” am not who I thought

The Lesson

The Lesson

There was this couple sitting behind me this morning, in the Elger Bay Cafe,
She was obese.  He was a grump.
Both sitting like lumps – not looking at each another,
reading their books ~ alone
It saddened me,
but thought – oh well, to each his own
Finally she spoke up,
When will the Benchmarks meet?
Find out for yourself! ~ he snapped back real mean
I almost came out of my seat!
Held tight
I was going to say when I got ready to leave,
Be nice to your wife
She'll be caring for you when you’re sick,
and dying
Then on second thought, what was the use of me trying…
to make it better,
It’s not my life
She’s not my wife
So I kept my big mouth closed,
Shut up when I rose,
and left,
saddened, upset
never to forget,
the lesson I gained,
the morning of June the second,
on a drippy cold day in the rain
still feeling their pain, all the same

Baby Blue II

Baby Blue II

When you think what you thought was true,
you believed that he just wanted you,
then find out later,
you were one of a few,
don’t ask him why,
let it lie, say goodbye,
then cry
What else can you do?
He doesn’t belong to you
Don’t be a fool
getting all hung up, all strung up,
It ain’t worth the broken heart
or being torn apart
The man doesn’t love you too
You were just one of a few
Bid him adieu ~
say, Goodbye Baby Blue

Baby Blue I

Baby Blue I

I don't know where the time goes
floats by,
sometimes races like a quarter horse
on the Derby track
I lost all track today,
time flew
leaving no trace of you,
Now what do I do?
Who shall I tell my secrets to,
Baby Blue?
